Laurel Octavia Woods had lived her entire life in Toronto, Ontario.

She lived with her mother, Anne, and had her best friend, Shannon Hellion.

Her life was busy, filled with school and friends and work, but it was lovely, it really was.

Until, you know, Toronto blew up and she ended up in a netherworld filled with faeries, witches, warlocks, vampires, shape shifters, and angels.

That sort of put a damper on things.

Now Laurel's been thrown into a world she never even knew existed and has become a member of the elite Circle of Protectors, along with Shannon, Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Michael Clifford.

And to think her biggest problem used to be finishing her socials project on time.

“Where are we?” Laurel asked in confusion.

“The head office of Hindenlee, the school for magical beings.” Shannon looked around. “Welcome back to your world.”

Laurel looked at her best friend, questions falling off her lips.

“My world?” She asked, staring around the room again. “What do you mean?  My world is Toronto!”

“No, it’s not,” Shannon said calmly. “I know this is a lot to take in, but this is where you and I belong.”

“I don’t—”

“I’ll start at the beginning, okay?” Laurel nodded and Shannon continued. “Remember how we met?  At the park?  Well, I didn’t move from D.C, like I told you.  Okay, I did at one point, but that’s not important, I’ll get to it.  I came because I was assigned to protect you by the board of Hindenlee.  But I promise, I wasn’t pretending to be our friend.  You are my best friend, Laur. I promise.

“But I came from here, this world.  I know you’ve always thought I was a little strange, and that’s because I am.  And so are you.  I—well, we—are not human, but I’m pretty sure you would’ve figured at least half of that out by now.  I’m a witch.  I’ve been taught here since I was a child, and when I was fourteen I was sent to protect you until you were ready to be brought into this world.”

Laurel opened her mouth but Shannon cut her off. “No questions until the end, please.”

“No, shut up.  Wait, where was I?  Oh yeah, you being brought.  Okay, so this is probably a horrible thing to tell you, especially because she’s just been blown up, but your mom, Anne, is not really your mom.  You are in no way related to Anne Woods, nor have you ever been.  She was a cover story to keep you safe.  She adopted you when you were one, and yes, that’s why she never had any baby photos of you.  She was waiting for the right time to tell you who you were, and yes, again, she knew about this place and what it was for.

“I said this before, but you’re not human, Laurel.  Your powers have been hidden since you were a kid because you believed you were, but they can’t be dormant any longer.  I think a part of you always had a suspicion, but the charm on you kept you from thinking about it too much.  You’re actually fae.  As in, faerie.  A very important faerie, may I add.  That’s why you had to be hidden until you were ready.”

Sing Me a Story by R29 Rated: T (PG-13) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 14]

Kaedon Amelia Morrison had lived her entire life in a teeny, tiny town in Canada with her twin brother.

As soon as they graduated, they moved to New York City together to go to university; Kaedon at Julliard, Kai at the Columbia University School of the Arts.

Kaedon had her entire life written and composed in a journal that she always kept with her.

At least, until she lost it in New York City.

Luke Hemmings just happened to be the person who found it.

“Hey, this just fell out of your book,” Mariah picked a yellow sticky note off of the ground that had fluttered to the ground a few seconds before. “This isn’t your writing.”

“What?” Kaedon grabbed the note and read it in confusion. “It’s…an address.”

“What kind of address?”

“What do you mean ‘what kind of address’?  It’s an address, is there more than one kind of address?” Kaedon said she hit the elevator button to go to her apartment.

“What I meant was: why is it important?” Mariah clarified.

“How should I know?” Kaedon shrugged as the elevator appeared.  She stepped inside and turned to Mariah, who was still stationary. “Aren’t you coming?”

"I think we should go find out what makes it important."

Timeless. by R29 Rated: T (PG-13) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 6]

Calum knew there was something about her.

From the first time he laid eyes on Lilith, he knew.

It was her eyes.  They had so many secrets to them that Calum wanted to figure out.

He needed to figure them out.

Especially because it seemed that Lilith's secrets were about him.

“You do this all the time, Lilith, please!” Alice sighed in exasperation. “Almost everywhere we go, you think you find him, you spill your guts, and it’s not him.  You become heartbroken all over again, everyone thinks you’re crazy, and we have to move again.”

“Look, I didn’t even say it was him, okay?” Lilith ran her hand through her hair. “I didn’t even say it was him.”

“But you think it is.”

Calum breathed heavily, stretching his legs as he stood, listening.

“Well?  Lilith?”

“What?  You didn’t ask a question, you made a statement.”

“But you think it is?” Alice asked. “Question mark?”

“I—” Lilith stuttered. “I don’t know.  I…I want it to be him.  But…I also don’t. Do you think I like getting hurt all the time?  Of course not.  It’s just…”

“You think it’s him.” Alice’s voice became softer. “And I get it.  But you can’t keep living your life like this.”

“I’ll stay away.” Lilith clutched her books tighter to her chest. “I’ll stay away from Calum.  Are you happy?”

Write Me by R29 Rated: T (PG-13) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 100]

I’m scared to tell him how I feel. // How could she ever feel the same for me? // I wish I knew what he was thinking. // If only I could see inside her mind. // Does he think about me as much as I think about him? // I didn’t know it was humanly possible to think about one girl so much.

I’m really glad I have someone like you to talk to.  // It sucks that you’re going through this too, but also kind of reassuring.

I’m so lucky to have you.  // I’m so happy you exist.

The journals were created by an English husband and wife team of book binders in the early twentieth century.  The original purpose of the twin diaries was to make the couple feel connected when the husband went to fight in World War I.  After three years of the husband and wife writing to each other, the husband came home and the journals were put away in their attic.  After the couple passed away, the journals were sold in an estate sale to a traveller who purchased them for her niece.  The niece and her best friend wrote in them until the late sixties when they were lost in a park in D.C.  From there, both journals were picked up by an old man who brought them back to his home in Australia for his wife to write in.  They were used by the wife until she passed away, and were then hidden in her son’s attic until they were sold in a garage sale by the son.  By this time, it was September of the year 2013.  The first journal, originally belonging to the English wife, was purchased for three dollars by a young girl, who thought it would be the perfect gift for her best friend’s seventeenth birthday.  The second journal, which belonged to the English husband, was purchased by a worried mother who thought her son, also seventeen, needed somewhere to vent his thoughts.

Of course, these journals were not ordinary.  They’ve been written in since 1915, but appear blank each time someone new opened the cover.  The only words that ever remained were the ones penned on the inside cover by the original owners.

Distant or close, near or far;

We shall be together,

Wherever we are.

Early or late, young or old;

I will always be yours,

To have and to hold.

Now, almost a hundred years later, their original purpose is being renewed—to bring two people closer.

An AU in which old spirits love playing matchmaker, journals rewrite themselves, and people discover that no one truly knows anyone.
